A team of iKapa Honorary Rangers cleaned up part of a boardwalk that was damaged by a fire on the top of Table Mountain. Honorary Rangers Sue Smith who is the Chairperson, and Rudi Sigenthaler the duty officer of iKapa Honorary Rangers, (as seen in picture on left) carried 500 kgs of damaged boardwalk from the fire site to a position suitable for uplifting by helicopter.
The boardwalk which is part of a network of trails in the TMNP was damaged beyond repair after a recent fire.
And in a related story, iKapa Honorary Ranger, John Elford, as seen in image on right, was repairing part of the boardwalk from Cape Point down to the ocean. This boardwalk which stretches from the Cape Point car park to the Cape of Good Hope has sections leading down to the sea. This boardwalk, part of many kilometers of paths within the TMNP, takes a particularly heavy pounding from the elements around the Cape of Storms.
iKapa Honorary Rangers are conservation orientated SANPark volunteers who do for conservation and SANParks what other charity groups do for society as a whole and provide a dynamic, practical support structure to Table Mountain National Park.
