Knysna Section of the Garden Route National Park is observing National Water Month by handing over three water storage tanks to Percy Mdala High School in Knysna as part of SANParks’ Corporate Social Investment (CSI) programme. This initiative, aimed at promoting water conservation and sustainable water use, comes in response to ongoing water restrictions affecting Knysna and Plettenberg Bay communities.

The installation at Percy Mdala High School marks the first phase of the project, with 27 additional tanks set to be installed at 11 other schools in the region over the coming months.

The handover event emphasised the importance of rainwater harvesting in securing alternative water sources for irrigation, gardening, and sanitation purposes. As a key supporter of environmental sustainability, South African National Parks (SANParks) remains committed to investing in community-driven initiatives that contribute to resource conservation.

Community members were encouraged to assist in safeguarding the tanks and supporting the school’s ongoing efforts to conserve water. Learners were also urged to continue researching and implementing innovative ways to use water sustainably. The event reinforced the critical role of responsible water management in ensuring the availability of this vital resource for future generations.

Through our CSI programme, SANParks continues to invest in meaningful projects that address pressing environmental challenges while uplifting communities.
