Four Suspected Pick Pocketers Apprehended at Table Mountain National Park

Cape Town: South African National Parks (SANParks) confirms the arrest of four individuals linked with pickpocketing on Signal Hill in Table Mountain National Park. The successful apprehension follows a focused operation carried out by the Sea, Air, and Mountain (SEAM) team. This action was prompted by a series of reported pickpocketing incidents in the area involving suspects disguised as park visitors.

The suspects were closely monitored for several hours until they attempted to steal a cell phone from one of the park visitors. The SEAM Team members reacted and all four suspects were apprehended while attempting to flee. The case has been reported to the South African Police Services at the Cape Town Police Station.

SANParks urges park users to exercise caution while engaging in outdoor activities. To ensure your safety and the security of your belongings, it is important to remain vigilant and adhere to these crucial safety guidelines.

  • Stay Aware of Your Surroundings: While enjoying the stunning views, please be mindful of your surroundings. Pay attention to the people nearby and be cautious of any suspicious activity.
  • Secure Your Valuables: Do not leave your valuables unattended. Keep your belongings secure on your person at all times, and consider using anti-theft bags or pouches.
  • Report Suspicious Activity: If you observe any suspicious behaviour or feel uncomfortable, please report it to park rangers or local authorities immediately on 086 110 6417. Your vigilance can help keep the park safe for everyone.
  • Be cautious of individuals offering help or assistance. Pickpockets often work in groups, and distraction is one of their tactics.

Your safety is our top priority, and we want every visitor to have a memorable and secure experience in Table Mountain National Park. By following these guidelines and remaining alert, you can help us ensure a safe and enjoyable visit for all.
