Details relating to recent incident in Deer Park, Table Mountain National Park

In light of two incidents in the vicinity of Deer Park in Table Mountain National Park, SANParks increased visibility in the area.

Furthermore, following a preliminary investigation by SANParks, together with information obtained by South African Police Service (SAPS) related to the incident in the area on 8 July 2026, it was established that the victim sustained cut wounds to his arm and twisted his ankle because of a struggle during the attack. SANParks is keeping track of developments in this case and offering required support to SAPS.

Also, preliminary information related to the incident on 13 July 2026 at the Deer Park Wash Houses indicates the involvement of a displaced individual. The victim and the two suspects appear to know each other and are believed to frequent the area.

SANParks officials located the victim at his shelter and immediately provided humanitarian assistance, including food support, while facilitating his return to a place of safety. SANParks is also assisting the victim in formally reporting the matter to SAPS, the state entity responsible for conducting criminal investigations.
