There is currently an active fire line on the North-Western flank of the fire and fire fighters are trying to contain it. MTO teams have moved to secure plantations with fire breaks.
The teams are also fighting to contain the fire North of the N2. There is no direct danger to communities at the moment. Incident commander, Dirk Smit says he is happy with the Eastern flank. “The Eastern side is looking better and not smouldering.”
The JOC has identified “red flag areas”. Once the fire crosses those areas, helicopters will have drop water bombs but currently fire -fighting teams are at it.
We remain grateful to all those helping to fight the fire. The JOC (Joint Operating Committee) meets daily with partners to coordinate resources and strategies towards fighting the fire. Partners include the FPS, Southern Cape FPA (SCFPA), SANParks, MTO, Bitou Municipality, Local Fire authorities from Askop Crags and Plett South FMUs, Provincial Disaster Management Center (PDMC), South African National Defence Force (SANDF), Working on fire and volunteers.
Thank you to the local community for the donations that have been given thus far. Drop off points for donations is at The Craggs Fire Base. There has been no damage to infrastructure and no loss of life as the fire is mainly in fynbos areas.
On behalf of all Partners involved.
