The Suspension Bridge is located at the mouth of the Storms River in the Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park, where the river meets the Indian Ocean. The bridge spans the river within a narrow gorge surrounded by steep cliffs, rocky coastline, and dense indigenous coastal forest. The area forms part of a dramatic natural landscape characterised by rugged terrain, powerful ocean currents, and rich biodiversity typical of the Tsitsikamma region. The bridge provides access across the river and offers views of the gorge, river mouth, and surrounding coastal environment.

The suspension bridge was constructed to allow visitors to cross the river, explore sites of archaeological and historical importance including caves and rock shelters that provide evidence of early human activity, as well as the surrounding trails. It contributes to the appreciation and interpretation of the area’s natural and cultural heritage. The bridge is an important feature within the Storms River Mouth area and forms part of the development of the region as a protected natural and recreational landscape. While the surrounding area has a long history of occupation by San and Khoikhoi communities, the bridge represents a more recent technological infrastructure associated with conservation, tourism, and public access to the Tsitsikamma coastline.

As part of the Storms River Mouth landscape, the suspension bridge has become an iconic landmark along the Garden Route. It represents the integration of infrastructure within a protected natural environment and supports educational, recreational, and heritage tourism activities that promote awareness of the region’s environmental and cultural history.
