Klipriver Midden

The Klipriver Midden is situated in the Harkerville area, within a diverse natural setting characterised by indigenous forest and coastal vegetation, contributing to the ecological richness of the region. The Klipriver Midden is an important archaeological site distinguished by its extensive deposits of shells, animal bones, and cultural artifacts. These rich midden layers indicate sustained use by hunter-gathering communities, possibly serving as a habitation site where food was processed and consumed or as a location for ceremonial functions.

The accumulation of shellfish remains, and other organic material, offers valuable information on the diet, resource utilisation, and environmental interactions of early inhabitants. The artifacts found at the site include tools and pottery fragments that helps to reconstruct the technological skills and social behaviours of ancient communities. This environment not only supports a variety of wildlife but also offers ideal conditions for the preservation of archaeological materials in the midden deposits.
