Karoo National Park Wins Big at SANParks Regional Awards Evening

The consistent hard work and dedication of staff at Karoo National Park outside Beaufort West paid off when it walked away with the two top awards from this year’s SANParks Frontier Regional Achievement Awards.

The awards evening takes place annually, giving recognition to individuals, teams and parks for outstanding service in the previous financial year – in this case 2024/25.  The Frontier Region of South African National Parks is made up of the Addo Elephant, Camdeboo, Karoo and Mountain Zebra National Parks.  A total of thirty awards were bestowed on worthy recipients at the event which took place in Nxuba (formerly Cradock) on Thursday 30 October.

Karoo National Park staff are taking back to the park with them the evening’s two most prestigious awards, namely Best Performing Park and Best Performing Rest Camp.  Other awards they raked up include Best Technical Department and a Best Customer Service Award to the Reception Team.

Numerous individual awards were also bestowed on staff, with the most notable being that of Best Leadership to former Park Manager, Roland Janurie, who oversaw the Park during the financial year.  He was since promoted to Addo Elepant National Park.

Some of what Karoo is most popularly known for is its warm, friendly and inviting hospitality.  This reputation begins from the minute guests arrive at the Park’s entrance gate and carries through throughout the park.  This is evident from numerous guest feedback interactions received, as well as other customer and stakeholder feedback.
