To go off the beaten track and experience the parks from a different vantage point. Nature walks, day hikes, overnight trails… our parks offer hiking opportunities that will fit everyone’s needs, fitness level and preference.
The Alexandria Hiking Trail is a 32 km, two-day circular trail. The first day is 18.5 km and the second day, 13.5 km. The Woody Cape Guesthouse is situated at the trail base, providing accommodation for the beginning and/or end of the hike. The guesthouse is ideally located on the edge of the Alexandria Forest, close to the Woody Cape offices/reception.
The two-day, one-night Cape of Good Hope Hiking Trail follows a circular route of 33.8km. It begins and ends at the entrance gate of the Cape of Good Hope, where secure overnight parking is provided. This hike offers hikers fragrant fynbos trails, secluded beaches and overnight accommodation at Rooikrans in one of three cottages, each of which sleeps six.
A unique guided, luxury hiking experience over four days on a spectacular trail on the Tsitsikamma coast, where your luggage is portaged and you spend each evening in the comfort of three different 4 & 5-star luxury accommodation. The result of this is a hiking experience that will both challenge and pamper you. It covers a distance of 17km.
Eve’s Trail is a 2.5 day, 30km guided trail, traversing the ancient steps of “Eve” – a young woman who lived in this area 117 000 years ago. Eve’s footprint was discovered in rock (formerly sea sand) at Kraalbaai in 1995. The trail is fully guided, catered and portered.
There is no better way to truly experience the geology, animal and plant life of the Augrabies Falls National Park than hiking through the heartland of the park itself. The Klipspringer Hiking Trail spans over three days and is 35,8km long. This self-guided trail operates from 1 April to 14 October.
A definite item for any hiker’s bucket list. The world-famous Otter trail spans five days, four nights and approximately 45km that traverses rugged coastline, indigenous forests, sandy beaches, crystal clear streams and rivers. The trail provides a physical challenge that will leave you breathless at more than the scenic beauty of the area.
A 5,5km circular hiking trail, with its start/end at the Meisho Maru shipwreck. Experience the coastline, coastal fynbos, ancient fish traps, freshwater fountains for the first half of the walk. Turn inland, cross the gravel road and work your way up the ridge with magnificent views of the Rasperpunt rock formations and the coastline.
This two day, one night, 28km trail offers amazing views of sandstone cliff formations, crystal clear streams and mountain landscapes. Black wildebeest, blesbok, burchell’s zebra, eland, red hartebeest and springbok are often seen, as well as the rare bearded vulture, bald ibis and black eagle.
For the brave, the four-day Vensterval Trail that starts at Hakiesdoring Trail Camp explores vast quartzite gorges, masses of botterboom, the crags of the Tswaies mountains and the fountains of Armanshoek.
Stay in a rustic, primitive camp and experiencing the African bush on foot as you are immersed in the wilderness. That is what is on offer for the more adventurous tourist – wildness, remoteness, tranquillity, peace and the quiet of the bushveld. There are various wilderness trails to choose from, spread throughout the Park. Each trail spans over three nights with the two days in between spent walking.
