Visitor Tips
- Mapungubwe National Park is an area with large and dangerous game animals and unguided walking is not permitted. Guests, who would like to arrange activities such as walks, drives and visits to cultural attractions, can do so directly with Mapungubwe.
- As outdoor lighting in camps is limited, a torch/headlamp is required when walking outside at night.
- Sunscreen, hat, binoculars, field guides, and liquids for drinking.
- Guests should take precautions against malaria when visiting Mapungubwe.
- All Mapungubwe’s camps are accessible by normal sedan vehicles, but it is advisable to have a 4×4 or high-clearance vehicle to ensure an enjoyable drive inside the park. There are also a number of eco-trails for which a 4×4 is required.
- Fill up your fuel tank at Alldays or Musina.
- Mapungubwe has a Restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as a Curio Shop/Mini Confluence Shop selling snacks and refreshments. The units are self-catering and fully equipped.
- Leokwe and Vhembe camps are not fenced and other camps are only fenced using an elephant exclusion fence hence you are advised to be extra vigilant when walking around the camp as animals roam freely through and around the camps.
- Please note that animals such as baboons and monkeys are problematic at some of our camps, especially the Mazhou Camping site. Apart from animals being dangerous animals, they can be extremely menacing and destructive to property. Please leave all food items indoors and do not leave your unit doors, unit and car windows open.
