Little Muck Shelter
Little Muck Shelter is a significant rock art and archaeological site located closer to Leokwe Hill within the Mapungubwe Cultural Landscape in the Limpopo Valley. Set against a sandstone outcrop in a semi-arid savanna environment, the shelter offers a unique combination of San rock art, archaeological deposits, which provides evidence for an interaction between hunter-gatherers and early farming communities. Therefore, the site contributes to our understanding of early cultural diversity, land use, and spiritual life in the region. Little Muck Shelter is valuable for understanding the spiritual and ritual life of San hunter-gatherers through their rock art, believed to reflect trance experiences, mythologies, and environmental knowledge.
