The Confluence Viewpoint is a scenic and historically significant location within the Mapungubwe National Park. It overlooks the dramatic meeting point of the Limpopo and Shashe rivers, where the borders of South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Botswana converge. This tri-national landmark lies at the heart of the Mapungubwe Cultural Landscape, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Besides the scenic views of the Confluence Viewpoint, the area also has military history. There was a military base at what was previously called Greefswald farm. The military base served several purposes: for training border patrols and possibly cross border operations, and a rehabilitation centre for conscripts who were considered problematic by the regime because of their sexual preferences, e.g. LGBTQ individuals. The broader area still has military bunkers and observation posts along the Limpopo River for border surveillance.

With its panoramic views of the river confluence and the surrounding riverine forest and savanna, the Confluence Viewpoint is also characterised by rich biodiversity, with visitors able to have sightings of elephants, crocodiles, hippos, and birdlife along the riverbanks. Today, the Confluence Viewpoint serves as a powerful reminder of Pan-African heritage, unity, and shared history across modern borders, showcasing the natural and cultural richness of the Limpopo Valley. It remains one of the most visited and awe-inspiring sites in Mapungubwe National Park.
