Climate

Bontebok experiences an annual rainfall averaging around 511 mm, with the lion’s share (59%) blessing our lands during the winter embrace from April to October. Two peak rainfall periods adorn our calendar, one occurring in April-May and the other in August, while December and January typically offer a drier embrace. Temperatures range from a summer high of around 40 ºC to a winter low of approximately 0 ºC, with yearly averages settling between 6 ºC and 32 ºC.

The majestic sight of snow adorning the Langeberg Mountains may be glimpsed during the winter months. Experience the gentle caress of the south-easterly breeze in summer and the dry, warm bergwinds from the north-west or the south-westerly gusts, heralding the arrival of cyclonic systems, in winter. Though our park doesn’t boast a weather station, we’ve diligently recorded rainfall since 1961 and minimum and maximum temperatures since 1991. Additionally, daily estimates of cloud cover and wind speed and direction provide insights into our atmospheric symphony.
