Dear Guests,

Please be advised that the pontoon at Ai-Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park is temporarily closed due to high water levels in the Orange River.

The closure will remain in effect until further notice.

We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your understanding and cooperation.

Kind regards,
Park Management

Visitor Travel Update22 September 2026

Please be advised that the Sendelingsdrift pontoon is temporarily closed from 21 September 2026 due to high water levels. The pontoon will remain closed until water levels have receded and all required safety inspections have been completed.

Travelling from Namibia?

Visitors can access the park via the Oranjemund–Alexander Bay border route:

Rosh Pinah → Oranjemund → Alexander Bay → San6ddrift → Sendelingsdrift

Please note that the final approximately 95 km from Alexander Bay to Sendelingsdrift is a gravel road and may be heavily corrugated. A high-clearance vehicle or 4×4 is strongly recommended for this section, as well as for travel within the park.

Before departing, please ensure that all vehicle and cross-border documentation is in order and allow sufficient time for this remote journey.

While the pontoon closure may require additional planning, visitors will be rewarded with spectacular views of the Orange River and the unique Richtersveld landscape along the way.

Visitor safety remains our top priority. We appreciate your patience and understanding while we work to ensure the safe reopening of the pontoon.

Regards
Park Management
