A day in the life of a ranger's dog involves jumping into helicopters, tracking poachers in the national parks or searching for illegal firearms or rhino horn potentially hidden in vehicles entering or leaving the park. Ranger's dogs are often the first respondents to incidences of suspected poaching.

Referred to as the "game changers", the canine unit in the Kruger National Park form an integral part of the anti-poaching team.

The unit comprises of approximately 52 dogs that perform an array of functions including the tracking of poachers in the fight against poaching and the detection of contraband at the Park's entrance and exit points.

Funds raised in support of the K9 unit will be utilised to address the needs of said unit which include a dog clininc, kennels, food storage container, training facilitity, etc.
