Keeps the more than 380 alien plant species and several alien animal species in the Park in check, and implementing strategies to prevent further invasions.
Functions
- Conduct Alien plant surveys and monitoring.
- Implementation of control programmes based on the surveys and monitoring.
- Control programmes through:
- Biological control (Release of Biological control agents)
- Chemical control (Herbicide application)
- Mechanical control (hand removal, felling, chopping ,digging etc)
- Act as a rapid response team to new emerging weeds and to small patches of aliens that warrant rapid eradication.
- Ornamental plant clearing in camps, gates, villages etc. (developed areas of the KNP)
- Management of the mass rearing station.
- Promote Alien plant awareness through various groups that visit the mas rearing station.
