Namaqua National Park Flower Season In Full Swing

The flower season at Namaqua National Park is in full swing, and once again the landscape does not disappoint. A wide variety of colors spread across the terrain as thousands of wildflowers emerge following a season of excellent rainfall.

For those wanting to see the smaller, rarer blooms, the hiking trails remain a recommended way to experience nature up close. The 5km circular trail at Skilpad in Namaqua National Park is currently a highlight — the fields are in full bloom and offer a peaceful, accessible way to explore the veld’s diversity.

Visitors can currently enjoy: Namaqualand arctotis (Bittergousblom), Namaqua parachute-daisy (Bergmagriet), Cape marigold (Soetgousblom), Namaqualand daisy, Sambreeltjies, BokbaaivygieGlansogies, blue and white sporries, Wit-soe, various Oxalidaceae (Suurrings), a variety of vygie species, Meidestert, Namaqua knikker ramshorinkies, Drumsticks, and different Gazania species.

The flower season is expected to peak around mid-August to mid-September, good weather permitting. Visitors are reminded that to get the most out of the flower viewing experience, they should visit the Park on sunny days with temperatures of 18 degrees and higher.
