Knysna Section of Garden Route National Park Supports Chris Nissen Primary School with School Uniform

The Knysna Section of the Garden Route National Park supported Chris Nissen Primary School through a school uniform support initiative held on Friday, 14 August 2026.

The school, located less than 10 kilometres from the Knysna Lakes Section, received 110 pairs of school shoes, 110 shirts and 110 pairs of trousers. The school was identified through SANParks’ Socio-Economic Transformation (SET) programme, which facilitates initiatives aimed at contributing to the socio-economic wellbeing of communities neighbouring national parks. MPM Enviro Enterprise, an independent organisation, supported the initiative by sourcing the school uniform items.

The initiative reflects a commitment to supporting education and promoting the dignity of children in communities neighbouring the Garden Route National Park. Access to appropriate school uniform helps learners attend school with confidence and a greater sense of belonging, while easing some of the financial pressures faced by families.

For SANParks, conservation is closely linked to the wellbeing of people living alongside protected areas. The organisation recognises that strong relationships with neighbouring communities are essential to achieving its broader conservation mandate. Initiatives of this nature provide an opportunity to translate this commitment into practical support that makes a meaningful difference in people’s lives.
