Addo Elephant National Park is on a recruitment drive to appoint Anti-Poaching Unit Field Rangers.
Anti-poaching Security Manager, Edward Moumakoe says “We are putting a call out to especially the unemployed youth in and around the Park, to suitable individuals who want to start a career in conservation where they will work out in nature among the African wildlife.”
We are looking for candidates who are physically fit, and those who come prepared will have a higher chance of success. Minimum fitness requirements are the ability to run 10km in under an hour, do 35 consecutive push-ups, 50 sit-ups, and seven pull-ups” he says. Appointments will be for a four-year fixed-term contract.
Other minimum requirements are that candidates have South African citizenship and an ID document, they have a Gr 12 pass, be at least 19 years old and have a clear criminal record (which will be verified with the SAPS).
Various recruitment sessions will take place in and around Addo Elephant National Park during July, starting at 8:30 AM on the relevant days:
Local candidates are required to attend the closest venue to their home with their ID, pen, and notebook. If they pass the recruitment process, they will proceed to a physical pre-selection at the Park.
Out-of-town candidates need to arrive at Addo Main Camp at 8:00 AM on 14 July. If they pass pre-selection, they will stay for a two-week selection process. They are to bring along their ID, pen, and notebook, dressed in suitable clothing for running and exercising, sandals/slops, running shoes/durable footwear, warm clothing (jacket, jersey, warm pants, bear), two pairs of socks and underwear and one spare change of clothing.
