West Coast National Park celebrates 20 years!

The West Coast National Park is celebrating its 20th anniversary from 21 to 25 September with a host of exciting activities for everyone. The theme for the celebration is “The Park through the Ages” and will showcase the natural and cultural attractions of the West Coast. The party starts on Wednesday September 21 with banner painting for pre-primary children – their theme for the day is “Our Fauna and Flora”. On Thursday we host the primary scholars focusing on “Our Marine Life”. On Friday a few special secondary learners will be part of our gala lunch held for local and national dignitaries. Local school choirs will provide the entertainment and our children’s art will be displayed.

We’re also making it possible for a never-before opportunity for you to spend the night sleeping under the stars at Tsaarsbank. That’s if the thunderous crashing of the Atlantic and brightest moon anywhere, will allow you. So haul out your tents and check the license on the caravan – but book early, as the sites are very limited!

Saturday 24th Heritage day is OPEN DAY with over fifty stalls selling crafts and other handmade goodies from the West Coast. Expect a range of fun activities for kids and delicious West Coast cuisine from the Geelbek Restaurant. A bus will transport Langebaaners to Geelbek who can’t get there otherwise so that our precious pensioners will also be able to enjoy the day with us. InterCape will have game and flower viewing drives and in the evening a once-off special night ride, complete with a catered sundowner picnic on the beach at Klein Mooimaak. Throughout the day Geelbek will be a hive of activity with art exhibitions, mime artists, live music, wine tasting and a fashion show featuring local textiles and local designs.

Sunday is Jazz Day at Geelbek with a number of artists interpreting “˜the mood’ in the grounds of this national monument. Add to this the culinary talents of André in the kitchen and the pleasant staff dedicated to serving you, where else would you rather be?

And so we’ll wind down with the sun setting over the lagoon with an appreciation of the wonders of the West Coast and birthday wishes to the park for many, many more years. For more information contact West Coast National Park on 022 772 2144.
