Kruger National Park will be turning 100 years on 31 May 2026 and as part of celebrating this centenary milestone, South African National Parks (SANParks) will run a series of conservation webinars taking place fortnightly between March and September 2026. The first webinar started last week on 19 March focusing on conservation in Kruger National Park and the advantages of an embedded research unit as a key component. The second session will take place tomorrow and the details are as follows:
The webinars aim to celebrate the iconic Kruger National Park and its 20 sister national parks, engaging the public into dialogues about conservation as well as foster a deeper understanding of conservation efforts.
Tomorrow’s topic will reflect on historic human habitation in the Lowveld region and how creating the KNP changed that. It will explore how the People and Conservation Department (now called Social Economic Transformation) came about, giving insights into the resulting land claims settlement processes and key focus areas such as the environmental education and outreach, economic empowerment, and human wildlife conflict engagements.
