Two young rhino (aged 12 and 18 months) were successfully rescued on Saturday, 28 February 2026 in the Kruger National Park following a report from vigilant visitors.

The two calves were spotted by visitors resting along the road to Malelane section and a swift response from the park authorities led to the capture and translocation of the two young Rhino to a place of safety.

The younger calf was airlifted by helicopter using a sling, while the older was safely transported in a crate to a secure facility.

We extend heartfelt gratitude to the park visitors whose swift action in alerting authorities made this rescue possible. Their commitment to conservation has given these vulnerable calves a chance at survival.

At present, rangers are combing the area to locate the mother. The circumstances surrounding her absence remain unclear, and investigations are ongoing.

Kruger National Park remains dedicated to protecting its wildlife and thanks the public for their continued support in safeguarding these iconic species.
