Tsitsikamma section provides emergency water relief to storm-affected communities
Following severe storms that recently affected parts of the Eastern and Western Cape, damaging municipal water infrastructure, the Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park has activated emergency water relief measures to assist neighbouring communities experiencing water shortages.
Through the deployment of a water truck and bakkie sakkies, the park has been supplying potable water to residents of Covie, Coldstream, Sandrift, and surrounding communities. To date, more than 20,000 litres of clean drinking water have been distributed to households and community water storage tanks to help alleviate the impact of the disruption to municipal services.
The emergency intervention reflects SANParks’ commitment to supporting neighbouring communities during times of crisis. As a conservation organisation, SANParks recognises that conservation extends beyond the boundaries of national parks and includes working alongside neighbouring communities to promote resilience and wellbeing.
Water distribution will continue, subject to operational capacity, until municipal water services have been fully restored. SANParks remains committed to supporting coordinated disaster response efforts in collaboration with municipalities and other stakeholders to assist affected communities.
