The South African National Parks (SANParks) implemented the second phase of its rehabilitation project at Newlands Forest.
The SANParks team from the Cape Research Centre, along with the Biodiversity Special Project and Conservation team, planted 100 Cape Beech (Rapanea melanophloes, commonly known as Boekenhout) seedlings at the forest today.
The first phase of tree planting took place in June in partnership with various stakeholders. This initiative is part of our ongoing rehabilitation efforts to address issues related to bark stripping.
In addition to the new plantings, the team also monitored previous plots where 50 seedlings were planted in June. We are pleased to report that those seedlings are not only surviving but thriving!
SANParks will continue to monitor this project closely and will conduct environmental awareness and education initiatives to promote the preservation and conservation of Newlands Forest for current and future generations.
