SANParks Commences Repairs on the Waterside Boardwalk
Repair and maintenance work has commenced on the Waterside Boardwalk in the Wilderness Section of the Garden Route National Park.
The prominent and popular boardwalk, which offers visitors a scenic and environmentally responsible way to experience the Touw River, has sustained damage over the past year due to repeated flooding events and natural weathering.
The current refurbishment project which is resuming today (Tuesday, 11 November 2025) involves replacing worn-out timber sections and reinforcing the structural framework to enhance the boardwalk’s stability and ensure visitor safety. Environmentally sustainable materials are being used to withstand local climatic conditions and minimise ecological impact.
Visitors are requested to adhere to all safety signage and use designated alternative routes within the Wilderness Section of the Garden Route National Park.
Maintenance work is expected to be completed by 31 March 2026. The Wilderness Section remains open for day visitors and overnight guests, with all other trails and facilities operating as normal.
