South African National Parks (SANParks) saw 105 051 visitors arriving at national parks across the country during South African National Parks Week that took place from 22 September to 28 September 2025.
This campaign allowed South Africans an opportunity to receive a day pass at a national park of their choice free of charge. An increase in visitor numbers at respective national parks includes Mapungubwe (52.3%), Mountain Zebra (52%), Addo (47.3%), Kruger (39%) and Kgalagadi (26.7%).
The week cultivates a sense of pride in all South Africans by encouraging a deeper relationship between society and their country’s natural, cultural, and historical heritage. It is also a time that gives all South Africans a chance to enjoy and experience the beauty and majesty of our breath-taking national parks.
Since its inception in 2006, National Parks Week has seen an influx of 982 034 day visitors in all participating parks. SANParks thanks all South Africans who took part in this week, especially educators and school groups.
