Rehabilitation of the N2 road leading to Ebb & Flow (Wilderness)

“Although the road leading from the N2 will be closed, the main Ebb & Flow Rest Camp, reception area and Loerie Nest venue will be fully operational” says Mzwandile Mjadu, Area Manager of the Wilderness Section of the Garden Route National Park.

Construction work is expected to take between 12 and 16 weeks. During this time, visitors to the Park are encouraged to use two alternative routes:

  • Entry from the N2 via Hoekwil. This route leads to a dirt road of approximately 1.4km
  • Entry through the town of Wilderness is about 3.5km

View the map of the alternative routes.

Noise levels are expected to remain normal and visitors (often passionate campers and bird-watchers) will still be able to enjoy the tranquillity of the Park.

Park management will engage citizens of the nearby Dumbleton Crescent for further emerging issues of concern.

Parking space as well as operating hours for the booking office and reception of the Park will also not be affected by any of the construction work.

The successful bidders for the job are Robcon Civils who won a tender process (CI-WM-0016) which closed in December 2013. Aurecon Engineers organised a site handover meeting during the week of the 10th March 2014. Construction work commences on the 25th March 2014.

Due process regarding environmental processes was followed. The project is not an extension of the road, but a rehabilitation of it, utilising the same footprint.
