The Northern Region Parks (Marakele, Mapungubwe and Golden Gate) went all out in commemoration of the internationally celebrated Mandela Day. This day is held annually to encourage people to give their resources to people less fortunate than they are and make a difference.

Mapungubwe National Park and World Heritage Site which is situated in far Limpopo connected with the nearby Kranenberg Farm School to install a fence that has been dilapidated for a long time.

A vegetable garden was also established to assist learners in this school to grow fresh produce and eat healthy meals at all times. This initiative was done in association with the SANDF in the area who will also hand out new school uniform to the needy learners in the area when school re-opens next week.

Marakele National Park, situated in Thabazimbi visited the local Primary school to establish a playground for the learners which will go a long way in learning and development of the learners.

Golden Gate, situated in the Eastern Free State, joined by the General Manager of Northern Region, Mr Lombard Shirindzi visited the Ikhutseng centre for disability to relieve them from their cleaning duties for the day and entertain the elders and the disabled children as well as establish a vegetable garden for them

After doing his bit towards the 67 minutes Mr Shirindzi said “it is important for us to always keep in touch with our neighbouring communities, as SANParks, we do not only do this on Mandela Day but always ensure that through our People & Conservation Department we are able to connect to the communities and do our part in redressing the scourge of poverty in these communities”.
