Media Release: SANParks Honorary Rangers and Imperial Logistics deliver Christmas parcels to KNP Ranger Corps

“The SANParks Honorary Rangers are proud to be associated with this important initiative and salute all the men and woman who are making a difference in the conservation and the protection for the rhino population within our national parks. The Kruger National Park Ranger Corps spend most of their working hours in the bush looking after this beautiful heritage”, said Louis Lemmer, National Chairperson of the SANParks Honorary Rangers.

The world-renowned Kruger National Park is divided into 22 Ranger sections; each section is managed by a Section Ranger who is assisted by a number of field rangers. Gone are those days where rangers use to look after the park and on daily basis by conducting daily patrols, looking out for snaresand report on other eventualities such as erosion, alien plants and the total integrity of our environment only. Today they are an anti-poaching force. On a daily basis they are faced with difficult working circumstances and high risk situations. All of this places huge amounts of pressure on the individuals and their families.

“This partnership between the SANParks Honorary Rangers and Imperial Retail Logistics is a critical example of how corporates and public can make an active contribution to support our rangers. We want to thank Imperial logistics and their partners for making this valuable donation possible”, concludes Lemmer.

The SANParks Honorary Rangers is one of South Africa”s leading conservation NGO”s and has been recognised by the Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) for our contribution towards counter poaching in South Africa”s national parks. The SANParks Honorary Rangers have provided South African National Parks with more than R248 million in donations and volunteer support over the past 10 years.

Unlike many fundraising initiatives the SANParks Honorary Rangers utilise 100% of all money raised for the purpose for which they were donated. No public money is used to run activities and every cent donated by the corporates or the public for counter-poaching or other identified projects is used to fund the actual projects or counter-poaching needs in South African National Parks.

Tomorrow, when the Ranger Corps face the challenges of a new day in the bush, protecting our rhino from ruthless poachers they will do so with the full knowledge that the people of South Africa appreciate and support them in what they do.
