Media Release: SANParks celebrates graduation of 123 employees

South African National Parks (SANParks) today celebrated the graduation of 123 of its employees from the Emerging Management Leadership Development Programme (EMDP) through the National School of Government in partnership with the University of Pretoria.

This celebration comes after the successful graduation of 54 Senior Managers who completed the Management Leadership Development Programme through Wits Business School in 2018. The SANParks employee development programmes also included five General Managers and one Managing Executive who completed the Executive Leadership programmes with Wits and GIBS Business Schools respectively.

In putting this wisdom to practice SANParks identified the EMDP and the other programmes as some of the critical interventions for developing current and future human capital. The EMDP programme was customised for SANParks business and was delivered in Pretoria, Kruger, Augrabies Falls and Wilderness National Parks in the 2018/2019 financial year.

SANParks CEO Fundisile Mketeni said, “As we enter the Fourth Industrial Revolution we need to consider new ways of doing things as the industrial revolution represents a fundamental change in the way we live, work and relate to one another. It is a new chapter in human development and we are the agents of change that are shaping the future.”

One of our key roles as SANParks is to support our employees in building a well-skilled workforce that will allow for the achievement of a world-class system of sustainable national parks reconnecting and inspiring society.

“Moreover, we want to build a leadership force that will be able to adapt to the changing outlook of the globally competitive environment. In order to give this country a fighting chance in a competitive world, organisations must work towards equipping its workforce.” Mketeni stated that the success of the SANParks strategy is dependent on effective strategic and diverse leadership.

“As a world society has started to realise how important both our natural and cultural heritage is and with the passionate and educated human capital at SANParks we can continue to conserve and leave future generations with the natural beauty and heritage of South Africa. Our country has been a democratic state for 25 years and as we celebrate this we salute these new graduates and hope that they will take SANParks to greater heights of success in this new age we are entering,” concluded Mketeni.
