The Oranjekom Gorge Cottage concept was concluded during the 2013/2014 financial year and was the result of popular tourist demand to have secluded accommodation facilities with a breathtaking view. Department Economic Development and Tourism (DEDAT) provided the funding via the DEDAT/SANParks partnership agreement. This facility is absolutely unique as it is located beneath the viewpoint of the spectacular Oranjekom Gorge, offering unrivaled vistas of the Orange River flowing 240m below. Visitors can look forward to a luxurious one bedroom apartment with a fully-equipped self-catering kitchen and separate ablution facilities. The unit also caters for guests with mobility impairment
The ideal is to convert Augrabies Falls National Park into something more than just the Falls. There is so much more to see and do at the Park other than a mere visit to the falls. The establishment of this new unit, which is 10km from the main rest camp, is one step in that direction.
Mrs Drinie Samson from DEDAT said the department deem it very important to develop quality tourist attractions in the Northern Cape and it”s always a pleasure to work with SANParks as they take good care of facilities within their jurisdiction.
Lucius Moolman (General Manager of the Arid Region) and Frans van Rooyen (Park Manager) expressed their gratitude to DEDAT for contributing R300 000 towards the construction of this establishment. This is but only one of the projects which DEDAT assisted the Arid Region with.
