Deserts are spectacular during the day, yet under the light of a full moon this becomes an unforgettable experience. By cycling during the evening and at night, the challenge of cycling in the heat of the desert is substantially reduced. Feedback gathered from the participants indicate that they had so much fun together with a few stiff muscles and scraped knees. And as if the cycling and canoeing weren”t enough, the participants even took part in daily activities to pass the time. Activities included hikes along the Fish River Canyon, climbing out peaks at |Ai-|Ais Resort and botanical tours.
This event is a collaboration between NWR, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism (MET), the South African Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA), South African National Parks (SANParks), and Peace Parks Foundation (PPF) as part of the trans-boundary conservation program.
The aim of the tour is to contribute towards unlocking the tourism potential of the |Ai-|Ais/Richtersveld Transfrontier Park through the staging of a world class annual multi-stage MTB event. Proceeds of the tour go to support joint conservation activities of this unique Transfrontier Park. The second event for this year is scheduled for 12 – 18 September 2016.
