The fire is forming a very narrow but long strip at this stage requiring a larger than usual number of fire-fighters to deal with the situation. Most resources have subsequently been deployed to the Cape Point area while a TMNP Fire team remains stationed at Contantia Nek to manage further flare ups. A total of 189 fire-fighters are currently on scene comprising of TMNP contracted fire-fighters and Working on Fire fire-fighters with four crews at Cape Point, two at Vlakkenberg in the vicinity of Constantia Nek.
Additional aerial resources have also been deployed at first light including 4 helicopters and 2 fixed wing bombers which have been diverted to these two problematic areas. Containment does however remain a challenge as there are still many small areas across the landscape with smouldering logs as a result of the previous week”s fires posing a possible threat depending on wind speed and direction.
In addition, the fires are both being managed through joint efforts of the teams working on the respective sites with teams hoping to get all areas under control before the weekend is over. At the moment there are no immediate risks to infrastructure however a change of wind could push the fire north to Scarborough or south to the Cape Point infrastructure.
