SANParks’ Community-Based Economic Inclusion Programme On Display
South African National Parks' (SANParks) economic inclusion interventions are on display today through the support of small-scale fishing communities ...
Park Manager, Peter Burdett, says once the new fencing is complete, the park will initiate a programme of donating some of the old, remaining fencing materials to the residents of new municipal homes which have recently been built in Graaff-Reinet. It is hoped that this interaction with the community will lead to a reduction in the destruction of the park”s boundary by individuals who are selling the materials to the new home owners to fence their plots with.
Section Ranger, Johannes Jaantjies, and park field rangers will be visiting new home owners in due course to establish their fencing needs and if needs be to recover any material which had been illegally removed from the park boundary.
A section of the park”s boundary fence adjacent to the community of Kroonvale/Asherville which has been plundered by criminals who sell or use the materials to fence newly built-municipal housing.
