With Youth Day and its associated long weekend rapidly approaching, Kruger National Park (KNP) management has again urged people to book their holiday in South Africa’s biggest national park, even if they are only coming in for a day visit.

“We would not like the situation where our guests are disappointed at being turned away from the gates,” commented Dr Bandile Mkhize, “so we urge them to book their entrance at the gate of their choice.”

All nine of the KNP’s entrance gates have day visitor quotas, which are filled on a first-come-first-served basis and, when the daily quota has been reached, the gate effectively closes to anyone without a booking.

Daily gate quotas, which vary between 350 and 750 people per day per gate, depending on that gate’s strategic importance or size, are enforced for three reasons:
“¢ The park is not so full of people that it becomes unpleasant for everyone,
“¢ To minimize any possible environmental damage, and
“¢ For safety and security reasons.

Anyone entering the gate with either an accommodation booking, or a day visitor’s booking, will still be allowed into the gate. Wild Card holders also need to book to avoid disappointment.

Bookings should be done in advance from Central Reservations (on 012 428 9111).

“We also urge all visitors to take note of the rules and regulations of the Park as they are there so that everyone can enjoy the KNP,” added Dr Mkhize.
