Lovelife Ground Breakers integrate conservation values in training

Love Life is formally known as the entity that educates the wider community on social issues focusing specifically on the youth of South Africa and the issues around health and family structures. Ground Breakers is a group of highly motivated young people that conducts outreach programs throughout South Africa at the Life Y-Centers (youth centers), schools, clinics, and with youth groups in various communities. The training sessions took place at Mokala National Park. During their time in the park the group learned about careers in conservation and survival skills themes such as ecosystem services to show how humans are so closely integrated with nature. The tranquillity of the park gave them time to reflect and learn things that are outside their comfort zone. Phumlile Nyathikazi, the People and Conservation Officer sat down with two of the attendees and this was what they had to say.

Sisipho Mokwena one of the Ground Breakers states that it a great experience as she has never been to a national park and also learnt a lot about the work done in the park .It was great to learn about sustainable development and how we as individuals can contribute in ensuring that we protect our beautiful biodiversity.

Mxolisi Booysen states that you have to be expecting the unexpected and have respect for nature and be alert all the time. We learnt so much from the rangers working as a team, these values we must have in whatever we do. In our communities we have the big five problems that we focus on which is Teenage pregnancy HIV/Aids unemployment drug abuse and crime. Being here and having career guidance and learning social skills will empower us to take those very same skills to our communities.
