KNP Experiences Unprecedented Visitor Demand During Heritage Day

Kruger National Park (KNP) saw record breaking attendance on National Heritage Day which also falls at the same time as the weeklong SA National Parks Week. On the day a number of nature enthusiasts arrived in the hopes of enjoying the national park’s iconic wildlife and landscapes. Unfortunately, due to capacity constraints and safety protocols, it was not feasible to provide all visitors with access.

The KNP Management deeply regrets that some guests had to turn back without experiencing the park. While we celebrate the enthusiasm shown by the public, we urge all future visitors to plan ahead and make bookings before departing from home to avoid disappointment.

SANParks reminds the public that while entry is free during National Parks Week, standard gate quotas remain in place to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience for all. Visitors are encouraged to use the online booking system or contact park offices directly to secure their spot.

At Kruger National Park the free entry will run from Monday, 22 September to Friday, 26 September 2025. It is important to note that no free entries will be accepted for the weekend dates of 27 to 28 September 2025.
