Prescribed Ecological Burn In Tsitsikamma Section Progressing Safely And On Track
The operation of a prescribed ecological burn in the Tsitsikamma Section of the Garden Route National Park is progressing according to plan following ...
“As with other programmes such as the Blue Flag beaches, the Knysna Hope Spot and Joint Operating Centres (JOCs) during high season, this is again a perfect example of co-operative governance”, says Jill Bunding-Venter, GM of the GRNP. “With the fragmented nature of the Park, stretching from Wilderness in the west to Tsitsikamma in the east, we have to work in conjunction with two district municipalities and nine local municipalities, Cape Nature and private landowners”, says Bunding-Venter. Instead of hampering , this co-operative governance actually contributes towards the SANParks vision of “Connecting to Society.”
Following the workshop on 20 February at the Wilderness Hotel, field trips for delegates will be hosted at the Ebb and Flow Rest Camp in the Wilderness Section of the GRNP. A total number of 60 learners from Touwsranten will participate in a dedicated Environmental Education Programme. The Park will also throw its gates open to all South Africans to come and enjoy the picnic and braai facilities, swim in the Touw river, walk one of the many kingfisher trails, do some bird watching, visit the Woodville Big Tree and generally appreciate nature.
All fees for other activities offered by the Park (segways, canoeing, hiking, camping and accommodation) will still apply.
