The Minister of Forestry, Fisheries and the Environment, David Maynier, visited the Bontebok National Park on 29 August 2026, to receive a briefing on...
This course, presented by Dr. Anton and Elaine Odendal, represents an ideal opportunity for novice bird-watchers or people interested in birds to become more involved in the sport. The course is fully illustrated and has been developed to grow the self-confidence of novices and help them to get started birding, rather than overwhelm new birders with the technical horrors of having to work through a book to identify a bird. A comprehensive manual and practical field outings are included. The course is officially endorsed by BirdLife South Africa and certificates will be presented.
The course will be held at the Geelbek Environmental Education Centre in the West Coast National Park.
Costs for BirdLife members: R 250-00 per entrant. Non-members: R 300-00 (Non-members receive a year’s free membership of both BirdLife SA and a BirdLife Branch of his or her choice). Rustic self-catering accommodation is available at the West Coast National Park at R60.00 per person per night. Bring your binoculars!
