SANParks – Table Mountain National Park (TMNP) can confirm that the wildfire in the Camps Bay area has been successfully contained. Fire crews made significant progress overnight and throughout the early hours of this morning.
Approximately 25 hectares of vegetation have been affected by the blaze. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
Fresh firefighting teams, comprising approximately 50 firefighters across five crews, will be deployed this morning to ensure hotspots are put out and flare ups attended to. Enviro Wildfire Consultancy (Pty) Ltd is assisting operations through the use of thermal drone flights to detect any remaining underground hotspots. Aerial support be activated this morning.
As a precaution, the following trails and access points will remain closed until further notice:
The South African Weather Service has issued a weather warning for uncomfortable heat conditions across the Western Cape. TMNP urges all park users, especially hikers, to take extra precautions during this period:
Considering the weather conditions today, with a high fire danger index, ground crews will remain on the line.
