The Golden Gate Vulture Hide was partly funded by previous birding events and provides birders the opportunity to spot the rare bearded vulture.
“Not only is the birding event a special experience, but the data gathered at the event will also be an official census of birds in the park and make an important contribution to the official bird list of the park.” said Elinda Mentjies of the Free Ste Honorary Rangers
Some of the special species of birds that have been recorded at Golden Gate are Cape Vulture, Bearded Vulture, Southern Bald Ibis, Gurney`s Sugarbird, Ground Woodpecker, Bush Blackcap, Whitebellied Korhaan, Verreaux`s Eagle, Black-rumped Buttonquail, South African Shelduck, Yellow wagtail etc.
The birding weekend will begin with a function and dinner on the Friday evening where a speaker of note will deliver an interesting talk on birds. After an exciting day of birding on Saturday there will be a special dinner, where the day”s activities will be discussed and prizes handed out to the lucky winners.
Registration fee is R350 per person; this includes dinners for both Friday and Saturday evening, but excludes accommodation and conservation fees. The daily conservation fee will apply to all guests who do not have a Wild Card. Further information is available on the registration form. The deadline for registration is Friday 09th January 2015.
