X8 Seasonal General Workers (Fixed-Term Contract)

Vacancies currently exist for eight (8) Seasonal General Workers for a fixed term period of three (3) months at the West Coast National Park. Reporting lines will be to the Section Ranger and Duty Manager. The successful candidates will have to provide their own accommodation as there is no official accommodation in the park.

The focus and conditions of this vacancy is targeting persons from Langebaan, Vredenburg, Hopefield, Saldanha, St. Helena Bay and Paternoster communities.

Requirements

  • Grade 12 (matric) or NCV level 4 certificate or equivalent.
  • 1 – 2 years of general work experience or related work.
  • Basic knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act.
  • Knowledge of First Aid.
  • Must be fit and able to work long hours on your feet with exposure to the elements (i.e. sun, rain and windy climatic conditions).
  • Will be required to work weekends and all public holidays with occasional overtime as required.
  • SARS Tax Reference Number.
  • Clear Criminal Record.
  • Proficiency in English and one other official language.
  • Punctual and responsible.

The following will be an added advantage:

  • A valid driver’s licence.

Responsibilities

  • General maintenance and upkeep of the terrain and gardens including visitor accommodation, day visitors’ facilities and access control points.
  • Perform cleaning duties including ablution blocks, picnic sites and day visitor’s area to prescribed standards of cleanliness.
  • Manage customer expectations and address customer needs.
  • Empty trash bins, relace trash bins, and ensure proper waste disposal.
  • Assist with admission management at the R27 Entrance Gate and at the Langebaan Entrance Gate.
  • Assist with even setup (guided walks, braai areas, educational activities).
  • General maintenance duties including the inspection, repair, cleaning and replacement of
  • watering system and sewerage systems at visitor facilities; braai sites and parking areas.
  • Assist with inventory control (cleaning supplies, guest amenities)
  • Perform daily services throughout the park providing a clean, safe and pleasant environment for staff and visitors.
  • Monitor and replenish cleaning supplies, toiletries and stationary.
  • Report maintenance issues and breakages (leaks, broken furniture and equipment, electrical faults, etc.)
  • Assist with law enforcement duties, including participating in regular patrols.
  • Follow health and safety regulations and best practice to prevent accidents and contamination.
  • Housekeeping functions – refuse removal, cleaning of conservation areas & picnic sites.
  • Handle and store equipment properly (i.e. cleaning machines and equipment).
  • Assist with basic traffic management and parking of vehicles.
  • Disseminate visitor information and assist with basic queries.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by Manager.

 

Please Note

The remuneration package includes a basic salary, based on the salary scale of a position with a Paterson A3 job grade and allowances and benefits as specified in the Conditions of Service of SANParks.
