Research Focus and Interest
Within SANParks I have spent time in both research and conservation management over more than 20 years, embedded within a complexity and broad social-ecological systems framework.
My passion is bridging between research and management, facilitating a shared understanding and common rationality for decision-making. This requires ongoing dialogue, multiple perspectives and embracing and integrating different ways of knowing and learning.
I am interested in the changing notions and evolution of strategic adaptive management approaches within protected area management and governance and how this relates to and is influenced by human capital, group dynamics and enabling environments.
More recently I also have been involved in stimulating work at the human-nature interface and its role in supporting wellbeing in fast-paced modern times.
