Wildlife Economy Programme
A governance process for the management of the wildlife economy programme; from applications, monitoring and support has been established.
Programmes within the Wildlife Value Chain:
- Infrastructure development – including game breeding, hunting and wildlife-based ecotourism.
- Hunting – Permits are issued by provincial authorities in areas with open borders with national parks. Hunting as a viable form of income generation in the Makuleke & Makuya areas adjacent to the Kruger National Park.
- Ecotourism – Development of the AoubLodge in Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park and the Lendlovu Lodge in Addo Elephant National Park.
- Meat Distribution – The Kruger National Park serves as a key source of community support during hardship supplementing protein for National School Feeding Scheme for primary schools.
