A Decade of Learning: Tourism Research in SANParks (2015–2025)

This report reflects on a decade (2015–2025) of tourism research within South African National Parks (SANParks), highlighting a period of significant learning, collaboration, and institutional growth. Led by the Tourism Development and Marketing division, the synthesis draws on contributions from over 50 authors across nearly 20 institutions and consolidates more than 100 research outputs into a comprehensive overview. Over time, tourism research in SANParks evolved from an ad hoc activity into a structured, strategic programme aligned with a formal Tourism Research Agenda. This shift enabled the organisation to strengthen its evidence-based decision-making and develop a more integrated, multidisciplinary understanding of tourism within complex social-ecological systems.
