State of the Bay: Langebaan on film

Dr Alison Kock and Sisanda Mayekiso received a hand crafted clock Saldanha Bay’s Executive Mayor, Andre Truter, in appreciation of sharing information on the biodiversity monitoring of the West Coast National Park MPA.

The Saldanha State of the Bay monitoring program is an inspiring initiative that assesses the health of Saldanha Bay, Langebaan Lagoon, and the surrounding ecosystems. Led by the Saldanha Bay Water Quality Forum Trust, this world-class program brings together industries operating in the area to voluntarily fund and support monitoring efforts. One of the program’s highlights is the annual State of the Bay report, which comprehensively assesses the bay and lagoon’s ecological health. This report is a valuable resource range of audiences, ensuring everyone is informed about the current state of these critical ecosystems.

In addition, during the Open Day, we had the fantastic opportunity to present our baited remote underwater video biodiversity monitoring work. By engaging with the community and sharing our findings, we raised awareness and promoted conservation and protection of the West Coast National Park marine environment and wildlife.
