The wetlands and rivers of Addo Elephant National Park
This report presents a first comprehensive inventory of AENP’s rivers and wetlands. Through a combination of desktop mapping and field surveys (conducted between September 2022 and November 2023), the report records 16 rivers and 437 wetlands. This inventory provides a foundational understanding of AENP’s river and wetland ecosystems, to inform the development of future management plans and hopefully catalyse more detailed research.
Furthermore, due to the close collaboration between SANParks and SANBI in this study, the resulting local-scale river and wetland data will provide valuable feedback to national processes, including the next national biodiversity assessment and the development of an updated version of the National Wetland Map.
