Karoo National Park supports Earth Hour
Visitors to Karoo National Park will be plunged into darkness for one hour on Saturday 28 March 2009 as Karoo National Park supports the global Earth Hour initiative. Electricity will be switched off in the Karoo National Park’s rest camp from 20:30 to 21:30 to show support for this campaign that seeks to raise awareness about climate change.
WWF South Africa is planning an exciting countrywide campaign to get 1 million dwellings and offices to turn off their lights; and 3 million South Africans to Sign Up and together take a stand against climate change.
Archbishop Desmond Tutu is the patron of Earth Hour 2009 and Cape Town Mayor Helen Zille has pledged her support for Earth Hour 2009.The global Earth Hour initiative aims to reach 1 billion people around the world in more than 1000 cities involving business, government and the community in the world’s largest global action on climate action on 28 March 2009.
