Table Mountain Cableway has extended its maintenance period from two to three weeks and will be closed from Monday July 14 until Sunday August 3. Mock-rescues will take place during this time with Cableway staff acting as visitors experiencing an emergency situation.
The Cableway has extended its annual maintenance period by a week, and will do so again in 2009, in anticipation of completing extra work so that the Cableway remains operational during the 2010 Soccer World Cup period.
Table Mountain Cableway is required to do annual maintenance to meet the highest global cableway standards set by the Swiss Governing Body for Cableways (BAV). The 2008 maintenance falls under the Cableway’s six-year maintenance plan, which includes full maintenance of the gondolas, their water tanks and the rotating floors.
“People often think that this is a quiet time of the year for us, but in fact it is incredibly busy. We have a lot of maintenance work to complete and the team is working very hard to ensure that we are ready for another great season. We also need to ensure that our new Table Mountain Café will open on time,” said Sabine Lehmann, CEO of the Table Mountain Cableway.
Visitors can take advantage of the special offers available before and after the closure of the Cableway. These include a free return ticket on your birthday on presentation of a South African ID; and the Cableway family winter special that offers two children under 18 years a free return trip if they are accompanied by a full paying adult (valid until September 15, 2008).
Should your birthday fall within our closure you may redeem this offer either one week before or one week after annual maintenance on presentation of a South African ID.
The Cableway operates weather permitting. For information call (021) 424 8181 or visit www.tablemountain.net
