Kruger National Park’s S3 gravel road, between the S1 (from the Phabeni Gate side) and S4 intersections will temporarily close from 18 April until 15 June 2016 due to maintenance. S3 will be closed between S4 and S1 intersections.

An update of the temporary closure of certain roads in the Kruger National Park, due to the heavy rain experienced in the past week.
A bakkie with three tourists from the United Kingdom i.e. male and two females collided head on with another which had four local occupants in the Kruger National Park (KNP) yesterday, 10 March 2016 at about 10:00 on the S60 gravel road; about 3.8km away from Punda Maria Camp. The two drivers and all passengers on both vehicles sustained injuries and were rushed to the nearest medical facility outside Punda Maria.
Following the substantial rain which fell on 8 March over most of the southern part and catchment area of the Park; the situation at the moment is that water has subsided, with Sabie and Sand River low water bridges which were overflowing now open (on road H1-2 between H4/1 - H12). Flights in and out of the Skukuza Airport are also operational as normal.
Most of the Southern part of the Kruger National Park (KNP) and the catchment areas received some good rain overnight; resulting in some of the low water bridges overflowing and closed for traffic today, 9 March 2016.

South African National Parks (SANParks) announced today, 7 March 2016 that a Ranger was shot and wounded during a contact with suspected armed poachers in the Kruger National Park (KNP) yesterday, 6 March 2016.
Kruger National Park (KNP) discovered an elephant carcass, 110 dead white back vultures, two male lions and two black back jackals killed by wildlife poisoning on Saturday, 27 February 2016. The elephant carcass was found with gun shots to its head, its tusks were removed and poison was laced on it. Scavengers in the vicinity of the elephant carcass were poisoned from feeding the exposed areas of the carcass.
South African National Park (SANParks) is observing the fifth annual World Pangolin Day on Saturday 20 February. Pangolins, often called “scaly anteaters” are increasingly threatened in Africa and South Africa. From illegal trade and habitat loss to accidental death on electric fences, all eight Pangolin species worldwide are listed on the International Union for Conservation of Nature Red List of Threatened Species as Vulnerable to Critically Endangered. The only South African species, Ground Pangolins (Smutsia temminckii), have been found in Kruger National Park (KNP), Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, Mapungubwe National Park and Marakele National Park.

Kruger National Park (KNP) has lately become a target for elephant poaching, with 19 elephants killed since January, and 12 of those in September and October 2015.
The Kruger National Park (KNP) in conjunction with South African National Defence Force (SANDF) will demolish the dam wall at Sirheni, one of the bush camps in the northern part of the Park in the week of 19 – 23 October 2015. The dam was damaged beyond repair during the 2013 floods. Explosives will be used to demolish the dam wall, after which the remains will be removed as part of the rehabilitation process.
